Application Server and Oracle Database Server Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) Solution Build on Amazon Web Services (AWS) Using Oracle Active Data Guard and AWS IaaS Solution.

PT. Ionpay Networks

ABOUT THE CUSTOMER:

PT. Ionpay Networks established in 2011 is a leading payment gateway company that provides a comprehensive range of online payment solutions in the form of various payment methods including Virtual Account, Credit Card, QRIS, E-wallet, Payloan, Direct Debit  and Convenience Store. In 2015, PT. Ionpay Networks became part of the NICE Group, a prominent company from South Korea, and rebranded to NICEPAY.

NICEPAY is at the forefront of technological innovation, focusing on enhancing financial technology solutions tailored to the needs of e-commerce merchants. Its platform facilitates seamless payment processing and empower merchants to streamline payment acceptance, ensuring efficient and secure transactions.

CUSTOMER CHALLENGE:

PT Ionpay Networks (NICEPAY) is committed to advancing the organization’s technology infrastructure, with a primary focus on modernizing the existing Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) through a migration to a cloud-based solution. This initiative is integral to the company’s broader Business Continuity strategy, designed to harness the agility, speed, reliability, scalability, cost efficiency, and security offered by AWS. Furthermore, this approach enables seamless integration with AWS’s comprehensive suite of solutions, ensuring enhanced operational resilience.

In partnership with PT Metrodata Electronics Tbk and AWS, PT Ionpay Networks is dedicated to developing and deploying this new DRC, a critical component for maintaining the continuity and stability of its business operations.

PARTNER SOLUTION:

To establish secure and reliable communication between Nicepay’s on-premises data center (DC) and AWS, a VPN connection with IPsec encryption is deployed. This connection features dual tunnels to ensure redundancy and maintain continuous link availability in the event of a failure. The setup supports seamless communication between applications, users, and Nicepay developers across both environments.

Notably, Oracle Active Data Guard is deployed as the first implementation in the Indonesia AWS region, enabling real-time database replication from Nicepay's active on-premises database to an AWS EC2 instance. This ensures high availability and data consistency across platforms, enhancing disaster recovery capabilities.

For comprehensive data protection, Amazon EBS Lifecycle Manager is integrated to automate backups of EC2 instance storage. This solution schedules backups on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis, providing a robust data retention strategy.

In terms of monitoring, custom CloudWatch metrics are configured, including disk and memory usage via agent-based CloudWatch. These metrics are displayed on a unified dashboard, allowing the Nicepay team to proactively monitor the overall health of the EC2 instances. Additionally, alarms are set with predefined thresholds to alert the team of any critical conditions.

To further optimize the migration process, AWS Application Migration Service (MGN) is utilized, now supported in the Jakarta region (ap-southeast-3). This service enables the seamless migration of workloads by installing the AWS MGN agent on source servers, facilitating the replication of virtual machines (VMs) from the on-premises data center to AWS.

RESULTS AND BENEFITS:

Using AWS Application Migration Services (MGN) simplifies the entire migration and replication process by eliminating the need for reinstalling existing applications on new Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) servers in the AWS environment. This service is offered free of charge for up to 90 days in the Singapore Region. Furthermore, deploying Oracle Database on Amazon EC2 allows seamless integration with any Oracle-supported replication technology, ensuring high availability and disaster recovery. Oracle Data Guard, included in Oracle Database Enterprise Edition, is fully supported by both Amazon EC2 and Amazon RDS, enhancing the reliability of the system. AWS Cloud Services also provide a cost-effective approach through flexible pricing models, such as the pay-as-you-go (On-Demand) and Saving Plans, which offer significant cost savings while delivering high availability solutions.
